Assessment Process

The ASDID Clinic engages in interdisciplinary, evidence-based, best practices in ASD assessment and diagnosis. 

The ASDID clinic also serves as a training experience for students and professionals in a number of disciplines. LSUHSC students will be present for your child's ASD assessment and throughout your overall ASDID experience.

 

1. Complete the Intake Form

2. Phone interview with Care Coordinator

The team begins an evaluation with a pre-assessment phone meeting to discuss what is known about the child and to plan for the evaluation.

3. Clinic Evaluation

Evaluations always include administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation System, Second Edition (ADOS-2), which is the gold standard for evaluating ASD and looks a lot like play.

While team members are “playing” with a child they are looking at how a child communicates and how they interact with team members and with the activities and materials presented. If the team has additional concerns about a child that are related to ASD, brief assessments of communication, behavioral, academic, and cognitive functioning may be added to the evaluation.

4. ASDID Report

After the evaluation is completed, the team meets to discuss results, diagnostic impressions, and recommendations and referrals that are appropriate for the family. An integrated report is completed and members of the team meet with the family to discuss the results and recommendations and to answer questions the family may have.
