What are your past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities, allied health, education, or school?

My past and current experiences with the pediatric population specifically include volunteering at Children’s Hospital Outpatient Rehab Clinic and being a FUNFitness Screening Volunteer for Special Olympics Louisiana. At the Children’s Outpatient Clinic, I was able to work with infants, toddlers, and adolescents with a wide array of impairments and functional limitations. I observed the children being evaluated and treated as I learned about the children’s impairments, and, most importantly, how they overcome the obstacles in their lives with the help of Physical Therapists. Additionally, FUNfitness is a Physical Therapy screening program designed to assess and improve physical strength, flexibility, and balance in athletes at Special Olympics Louisiana events. During these screenings, we also educate the athletes and their families on the importance of incorporating physical activity into their daily routines. Lastly, I have also had experience observing treatment of premature babies in the NICU setting at Lakeview Hospital in Covington.

I have also completed internships providing Physical Therapy care to the adult population at the following locations: Ochsner Main Campus, Ochsner Hospital for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Ochsner Kenner Campus, Rehab Access Outpatient PT clinic, and University Medical Center Outpatient PT clinic.

What are your goals for your Interprofessional Preparation experience?

My goal for the Interprofessional Preparation experience is to learn more about the field of pediatric medicine and rehabilitation across multiple disciplines. With this, I want to have a better understanding of the challenges the pediatric community faces within the state of Louisiana and how I, as a future Physical Therapist, can help them overcome these challenges.

What do you wish to contribute as a future Related Service Provider &/or Special Education Teacher?

As a future Related Service Provider, I wish to contribute my abilities as a physical therapist to ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate in activities that feed their souls. I also will work to do my part in paving the way for all children to live fulfilling and active lives with ease of access to any accommodations that they may need to do so.
