What are your past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities, allied health, education, or school?

Before starting LSU’s speech language pathology graduate program, my career started in New Orleans working for Teach for America. I initially worked as a general education third grade teacher and then moved into a primary special education role. During my time as a third-grade teacher, I experienced working with a family through the initial evaluation process. This taught me about building relationships with families and the importance of their role throughout the entire process. I also had the opportunity to work as a special education teacher, and during that time I gained experience serving students in the inclusion and resource model. Through this opportunity I was able to develop and work on IEP goals, collaborate with families, and build positive relationships with students. One of my biggest takeaways from this experience is recognizing the importance of a team approach in order to have the most impact for students and be able to reach the best outcomes.

What are your goals for your Interprofessional Preparation experience?

In my future career, I want to assist people in achieving their goals as well as be a mentor for others within my field. I want to build my skills in collaboration with other professions, families, and individuals with disabilities to be a more successful speech language pathologist. I aspire to be a lifelong learner and share my knowledge with others to help them achieve their goals.
