What are your past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities, allied health, education, or school?

Since beginning my college studies, I have had the opportunity to work with school age children in a variety of ways each semester. During my freshman and sophomore years, I collaborated with the Young Advocates Institute South (to develop programs that would assist students in improving their communication skills and becoming more effective leaders. I worked with Delta Health Alliance Youth during their Summer Enrichment Program during my Junior and Senior years to help children develop literacy skills. I also worked as a Mental Health Tech at Life Help. I worked with students in elementary school who were diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. I use approaches to help students establish coping mechanisms for their disability.

What are your goals for your Interprofessional Preparation experience?

My goal for the Interprofessional Preparation Experience is to broaden my knowledge of working with disabled children so that I may be an advocate for them. I am also looking forward to collaborating with other students and developing a strong professional network.

What do you wish to contribute as a future Related Service Provider and/or Special Education Teacher?

As a future Related Service Provider, I hope to bring compassion, openness, and a good influence to the table. I intend to use the first-hand knowledge I received from this program to advocate more effectively for students with disabilities.
