Transition Capacity Building Initiative
LSUHSC Human Development Center (HDC) and
Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS)
The two-day Transition Summit training will cover essential transition policies, legislation and best practice models including: historical and legislative foundations, predictors and barriers to successful employment and transition outcomes, developing measurable post-school goals based on age-appropriate transition assessment, effective interagency collaboration, and consultation, and Student Transitioning to Adult Roles (STAR) plan process. The three-day Transition Specialist Core Training will provide practical strategies to implement site development, student career assessment, jobsite and community instructional support, jobsite analysis, and developing student portfolios and resumes. The 14 Transition Webinars cover the following topics:

Student-led IEP planning
- Introduction and Overview
- Developing Student Profile (based on Template provided in Overview Module)
- Writing and Implementing Lesson Plan designed to teach Student(s) to lead their IEP meeting

Pre-Employment Transition Services Training (Pre-ETS)
- Overview of WIOA Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) requirements
- Work-based learning experiences, Career development portfolios
- Logistical Considerations and strategies

Post-Secondary Education settings to teach and practice "soft skills"
(range of adult skills; e.g., skills learned in PSE education settings predictive of employment and community participation)- Overview & Critical Elements of Program Planning (logistical considerations)
