What are your past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities, allied health, education, or school?

My experiences working in the field of disabilities include volunteering with programs such as Spina Bifida of Greater New Orleans, Hearts and Hooves in Baton Rouge, Moreau Pediatric Physical Therapy, and Miracle League, as well as working as a care giver for a child with special needs. Spina Bifida of Greater New Orleans holds an annual summer camp for children with spina bifida every summer and I have served to assist with camp activities, teach proper transfer techniques to counselors, and to make sure every child is having a fun and is safe at camp. Hearts and Hooves is a therapeutic riding program where I was able to ensure the child’s safety while on the horse, as well as transfer them to and from the horse. While a volunteer at Moreau Pediatric Physical Therapy I was able to observe children with a variety of diagnoses. Miracle League is an adaptive baseball league and as a volunteer I am able to help children participate in playing baseball, while encouraging safety and fun.

What are your goals for your Interprofessional Preparation experience?

My goal for my Interprofessional Preparation experience is to learn more about pediatrics not only in the setting of physical therapy, but to further my understanding of all services a child may receive so that I can be a better clinician and advocate for my patients.

What do you wish to contribute as a future Related Service Provider &/or Special Education Teacher?

As a future Related Service Provider, I hope to share my passion and knowledge of physical therapy to the other members of my cohort so that we all know how to advocate, communicate, and collaborate for our patients.
