ELC Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

 

What ages does the Early Learning Center at HDC serve?

The ELC at HDC currently serves children from 6 weeks to 36 months. Children must be under 36 months on September 30th to apply.

 

What are the hours of operation?

Our center is open from 7:30 am until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

 

What are center closure days?

The ELC follows the LSUHSC holiday closure schedule found at [insert website]. The center also closes ½ a day on the last Friday of the month for staff development. A list of all closures can be found on the Calendar tab on the website.

 

What are ratios and group sizes of the classrooms?

The ELC maintains the following ratios and group sizes:

What curriculum does the ELC use?

The ELC uses the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos and the Creative Curriculum for Preschool. Both are evidence-based, Tier I curricula and are designed to teach 38 research-based objectives for children from birth to age five. The objectives are predictive of a child's future success in school.

 

What are teacher qualifications at the ELC?

Lead teachers for each classroom have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an Early Childhood/Education field. Assistant teachers have a minimum of an Associate's degree in Child Development/Early Childhood.

 

How is child progress measured?

The ELC uses Teaching Strategies Gold software to track child progress in the curriculum.  Data is collected, analyzed, and used to individualize instruction for each child to maximize learning.

 

How much is tuition at the ELC?

Tuition is $1200 per month for full-time care through July 2018.

LSUHSC faculty, staff and affiliates are eligible for a 20% discount.

 

Can I take a tour of the facility?

How is my child's progress reported?

Parent-teacher conferences are offered 3 times each year in October, February, and June. Teachers will share child progress data and discuss recommendations and parent priorities. Parents can schedule a meeting with their child's teacher or the Director at any time. During the year.

 

Are there opportunities for parent involvement?

The ELC has an open door policy. Parents are always welcome to volunteer in their child's classroom. We also have 2 observation rooms available for nursing mothers or parents who want to observe classroom activities without interrupting teaching.

Parents receive a monthly newsletter and are invited to the monthly parent meetings.
