Dr. Alisa Lowrey

Dr. Alisa Lowrey


Dr. Alisa Lowrey is a special educator with more than 20 years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and preparing others to work in this field.  Her interests all surround individuals with developmental disabilities.  She is primarily interested in improving real life outcomes for individuals with developmental disabilities in the areas of employment, independent living, community involvement, and opportunities for relationships. She also has interests in the application of technology to prepare individuals to effectively serve in the field.

Lisa Altman

Lisa Altman, M. Ed.


Lisa, a native of New York City, began her teaching career in New Orleans after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000.  Lisa has 7 years of experience teaching students with disabilities in multiple classroom settings in both New Orleans, LA and Brooklyn, NY.  Recently, Lisa worked at the Recovery School District in New Orleans as the Significant Disabilities Specialist.  Lisa has been the RSD District Liaison on the LASARD project for the past two years.  In addition, Lisa serves on the Louisiana Department of Education Significant Disabilities Leadership Committee and Literacy Committee.  Lisa holds a Masters of Education in Special Education from the University of New Orleans.     

Auna Oncay

Auna Oncay, M.Ed.


Auna, a native of Pollock, LA, has taught students with and without disabilities in Grant Parish and Rapides Parish.  She received her Master’s of Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 2005. Auna’s professional interests include all areas of special education, adult education, and teacher education. 

Bambi Polotzola

Bambi Polotzola

Bambi is an educator who has worked with students with and without disabilities in grades 2 – 12.  She most recently worked with students with autism in St. Landry Parish.   She received her teacher certification in Special Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.    Bambi is primarily interested in capacity building and systemic change that supports people with developmental disabilities and their families to be fully included and valued members of their communities.

Julie RileyJulie Riley, M.Ed..

Julie has worked with individuals with autism spectrum disorders over the past decade. Prior to joining LASARD, Julie was the Associate Director of the Florida State University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities where she provided direct service and technical assistance to constituents and schools in 6 counties, as well as providing training workshops to the public, school districts, and other organizations. She was also a Clinical Research Diagnostician for the FIRST WORDS Project, an autism prevalence study funded by the CDC. Julie taught children with autism spectrum disorders in Bay District Schools, Florida. Julie has also experience as a school counselor and behavior consultant. Julie holds a Master’s in Education in school counseling from the University of Southern Mississippi and has completed additional graduate coursework in school psychology.
