LOUISIANA SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY
INTERNSHIP CONSORTIUM (LAS*PIC)

An APA Accredited Internship in School Psychology
offered by:
Human Development Center
School of Allied Health Professions
LSU Health Sciences Center - New Orleans, LA

APPLICATION PACKET PROCEDURES
Because Louisiana Regulations do not allow those who do not have specialty training in school psychology to work in the schools, we can only offer internships to those students who have completed the requisite training in a graduate program in School Psychology. Applicants must be registered with The National Matching Service in order to apply.

These are the steps necessary to complete an application for LAS*PIC.

  1. Visit the APPIC Website www.appic.org and download the application packet (AAPI).
  2. Complete the application for internship. Omit Section 2. Instead, please write an essay describing your professional goals.
  3. In addition to the AAPI, please submit the following:
    1. Three (3) letters of recommendation; one of these must be from your director of training.
    2. Submit a resume or vita. Be sure to include any presentations or publications you have authored. Note any awards you have received while in graduate school.
    3. An official transcript of your coursework during your training (preferably sent directly from your university records department
    4. Include two (2) writing samples:

    1) a comprehensive psycho-educational report or assessment report and, 2) an intervention plan (either behavioral or academic) which includes a description of the methods and data used to determine the needs of the student. The writing samples are important elements in our screening of the application.

  4. Mail all required materials to arrive by November 20, 2003, to:

            Constance K. Patterson, Ph.D.
            Human Development Center
            1100 Florida Ave., Building 138
            New Orleans, LA 70119-2799

Applications are screened as they are received. If the application meets LAS*PIC criteria, an on-site interview is offered the applicant. Be sure to provide an address, phone number and email address where you can be reached in late November. Selection of interns is based on both the evaluation of the application packet and the results of the interviews. Starting dates vary, but the internship will generally start in early August with completion at the end of the following July.

Please do not hesitate to call (504/942-8204) or email (cpatte@lsuhsc.edu) for additional information as you complete the application process. You may also wish to contact us to assure that your application packet is complete by the deadline.
