LSUHSC Children’s Fund

*Children's Fund Fundraisers

The LSUHSC Children’s Fund was designed and begun in 1995 by parents of children served by the Infant/Toddler and Family Services Program at the Human Development Center.  These parents wished to help ensure that the Program always continued to meet the needs of children and families.  Working with staff and leadership of the Human Development Center, this core group of parents designed the Children’s Fund, obtained approval for it to operate under the LSU Health Sciences Center Foundation, and established guiding principles and operating procedures for the Fund as written in its bylaws.

On January 12, 2001, Board Members and Officers were elected for a two year term.  The general membership elected Children’s Fund Board Members as stated in the Children’s Fund Bylaws.  The following 9 members were elected to the Board of Directors of the Children’s Fund:  Jennifer deBlanc, Cynthia DiCarlo, Ralph Fontcuberta, Dinah Gerone, Maxine Kimbrell, Darbi Philibert, Shannon Riordan, Laura Vagianos, Charles Zitzmann.  Ex-officio members of the Board include Bob Crow, Sarintha Stricklin, and Melissa Hebert. These Board Members elected officers of the Fund.  Congratulations to our President, Ralph Fontcuberta; Vice President, Jennifer deBlanc; Treasurer, Laura Vagianos and Secretary, Dinah Gerone.    All elected positions will remain active for the year 2001.

The Children’s Fund has supported children with disabilities and their families in a wide variety of ways.  It has purchased computers with adaptive hardware and software for use within the Infant Program classrooms. It also has purchased augmentative communication devices for children with speech and language delays. These touch-activated devices provide pre-verbal and non-verbal children with a means to communicate their wants and needs.  Additionally, the Fund has provided children and families with funding for adaptive equipment (such as the corner chair pictured), therapeutic swings, respite services, and a service/helper dog. Each of these donations has supported children and families within their daily lives.

The Children’s Fund relies heavily on parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends for fundraising efforts.  An annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon is the Fund’s largest fundraiser.  Anyone interested in attending the luncheon, volunteering at the event, or making a donation can contact Sarintha Stricklin, Program Director of the Infant/Toddler and Family Services Program, at 942-8308 or Dinah Gerone, Director of Development, at 942-8309.

United Way 2001 Donations Can Be Designated Directly To LSUHSC Children's Fund

DESIGNATE THE LSUHSC CHILDREN’S FUND AGENCY NUMBER 3201 ON YOUR

UNITED WAY DONATION FORM!

The United Way 2001 Campaign is in full swing again! Corporations are currently distributing pledge applications to solicit donations for gifts to the United Way. This year, Corporate Sponsors are funding United Way’s overhead, so 100% of contributions will be dedicated to organizations receiving United Way gifts. The LSUHSC Children’s Fund is one of the many organizations that will receive donations this year. The Fund is a non-profit organization that provides support to the Infant/Toddler and Family Services Program in an effort to maintain the excellent quality of services currently provided to children and families served by the Program.

Did you know that you could designate that your donation be distributed directly to the LSUHSC Children’s Fund? Yes, your gift to the United Way can support the Infant/Toddler and Family Services Program. All you need to do is complete the United Way Donor Choice Program form. Enter the LSUHSC Children’s Fund agency account number 3201 in A. of the Specific Care section of that form. It’s simple and could help so many children and families like these.

We thank you for supporting children and families served by the LSUHSC Children’s Fund and the Infant/Toddler and Family Services Program.
