MISSION Jefferson Parish Affordable Housing Task Force Background which established the Jefferson Parish Affordable Housing Task Force and charged its members "…to create and expand affordable, safe, and quality housing options in Jefferson Parish for persons with low incomes, including persons with disabilities". Interested citizens, advocates, service providers, lenders,
non-profit organizations, Mission The initial goal of the Jefferson Parish Affordable Housing Task Force was to: Identifystrategies/recommendations to increase affordable, safe, and quality housing options in Jefferson Parish for persons with very low/low/moderate incomes, including persons with disabilities and persons who are elderly. These recommendations were then developed into a written report and presented to the Jefferson Parish Council. Goals the following have resulted: 1) two overarching recommendations that are associated with future action by the Jefferson Parish Council and 2) five major goals, which include highly specific objectives, that relate to the continuation of the Jefferson Parish Affordable Housing Task Force and its much-needed role regarding increasing affordable, safe, and quality housing options in Jefferson Parish for persons with low incomes, including persons with disabilities and persons who are elderly. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Allocation of
adequate resources for the development of a Housing Element of
a. promote the development of housing for Jefferson Parish residents and of all income levels and age groups and of persons with special needs;
b. promote policies and procedures that allows for the availability of land
for housing; and c. maintain or rehabilitate Jefferson Parish’s existing housing stock. 2. Passage
of a Parish Council Resolution that supports a continued and expanded address the following goals as identified by the membership of the Task Force. G OALS1. To increase the number of quality, safe, affordable multi-family and single-family housing units in Jefferson Parish. 2. To
decrease the number of Jefferson Parish residents who are burdened by rental 3. To
increase the number of homeownership opportunities available to moderate- to 4. To reduce
the number of foreclosures and abandonments of housing units that 5. To
prevent housing discrimination and geographical separation in Jefferson
Parish status as established by law.
