Advocacy Center, Inc.
The Advocacy Center (AC) is Louisiana's protection and advocacy system mandated by Federal law to protect the rights of persons with mental or physical disabilities. AC is also funded by the state to provide legal assistance to people residing in nursing homes in Louisiana, as well as to residents, 60 years and older, of Orleans, Plaquemines, Allen, and Calcasieu Parishes (counties); and to advocate for the rights of group home and nursing home residents. Among the diverse services offered are legal representation, information and referral, outreach and training.

ERRIS (Enhancing Rehabilitation Research in the South)
Under the direction of Dr. James A. Blackman, MD, MPH of the University of Virginia, Enhancing Rehabilitation Research in the South (ERRIS) is designed to provide an infrastructure that will increase the quality and quantity of rehabilitation research in the region. All etiologies and age groups are included, although there is a relative focus on central nervous system injury and pediatric through young adult populations.

Louisiana State Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities The Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council is made up of people from every region of the state who are appointed by the governor to develop and implement a five year plan to address the needs of persons with disabilities. Membership includes persons with developmental disabilities, parents, advocates, professionals, and representatives from public and private agencies.
